My Health

A companion app for patients diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma to manage their care plan

Problem

During clinical trials, healthcare providers depended on in-person consultations for gathering patient data and formulating care plans.
Likewise, individuals affected by multiple myeloma faced challenges attending these consultations due to their condition.

Goal

"As a patient, I wish to have convenient access to my care plan and the ability to communicate my symptoms to my healthcare provider from the comfort of my home.
This will enable my medical teams to monitor my health using the reported data, which can also contribute to valuable research on Multiple Myeloma."

Primary Research

What patients want

Patients were taking substantial medication doses, resulting in fatigue and memory lapses.
Regularly traveling for consultations was inconvenient for these patients, and many relied on caregivers for their daily care and overall health.
Of those diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, 60% were over the age of 65, and 70% were new to using smartphones.

What healthcare Providers want

Multiple Myeloma is considered a rare form of cancer, there are a only a limited number of oncologists who specialise in its treatment.
Doctors often use physical check-in forms to record and track patients' health data, which can get lost due to the sheer volume and logistical challenges.
Similarly, doctors provide physical prescriptions to patients, making it difficult for them to keep track, leading to potential misplacement.
Given the rarity of this condition, there is a lack of readily available reliable information on the internet, highlighting the need to educate both patients and caregivers with trustworthy resources.

Once we decided the information architecture we came up with wireframes to validate ideas with the product stakeholders

User Testing

Validated Designs with patients to test the usability of the designs.

Cards

Cards on the top guide the patients at all times on actions they need to take. The information on the cards changes depending on the context.

My Care Plan

Care plan prescribed by physicians to track medications, symptoms and upcoming appointments.

Surveys

Daily/Weekly/Mothly survey’s are sent to the patients by their physicians to keep track of their health.

Symptom Reporting

Patients can report symptoms they face multiple times of the day.

Appointments

Track upcoming appointments

My Data

Patient reported data is collated in the second tab. The same data can be exported easily and shared with their physicians and caregivers.

Check-In Surveys

Cards on the top guide the patients at all times on actions they need to take. The information on the cards changes depending on the context.

Learnings

  • Empathising with the patients helped me get closer to understanding their needs.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders, each with their unique perspectives and constraints deepened my collaboration skills.
  • I learned the different ways data can be shown to the user through graphs.
  • User testing was crucial as it helped me validate my designs with the patients.
